Top ten resourceful websites for journalists

  • Journalism, like every other profession, evolves with technology. Technology has greatly transformed journalistic practices—reporting styles, reporting gadgets, news platforms, and so on. Hence, journalists who want to remain relevant and active must regularly and consistently learn new practices and incorporate such new practices into their works.

    In this article, I examine some important web resources for smart and outstanding journalists to upgrade their skills and learn about new opportunities.

    Media Career Services

    Media Career Services provides relevant resources, articles, opportunities for journalists. The website features up-to-date news, interviews, jobs, resources, directories for journalists.  The website address iswww.mediacareerng.org.

    Journalist’s Resource

    Journalist’s Resource’s website is managed by faculty, staff and graduate students at Harvard Kennedy School as part of the Carnegie-Knight Initiative on the Future of Journalism Education.  The website provides links to reliable, timely research in the categories of environment, economics, society, government, politics and international. It also features Tip sheets offer information on core journalism skills, including interviewing, style, ethics and more. The website is www.journalistsresource.org.

    Investigative Reporters and Editors

    Investigative Reporters and Editors’ website has thousands of resourceful reporting tip sheets and guides to writing stories about any topic. It is available for free upon registering as a member. The website is www.ire.org.

    The Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism

    The website of the Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism at Arizona State University provides daily tips on how to cover business better. It also features a free-training calendar, story ideas, beat-basics primers and self-guided training for journalists and professors interested in developing their business journalism skills.     This website is another rich resource for journalists; it features jobs openings, events, training/tips, and contests/awards. Journalism.co.uk also features resourceful articles on current technology tools for journalists and how these tools can be integrated to bring news to the next level.

    This a platform dedicated to journalism employers and employees. It’s a good platform for those looking for journalism jobs and journalism employers.

    BBC Academy – Journalism

    The BBC College of Journalism is a free e-learning, online course series for journalists. The website address is www.bbc.co.uk/academy/journalism.

    EJC’s website, ejc.net, amidst other useful resources, features quality reviews for important tools for journalists and general users.
