10 Must-have Google Chrome Extensions For Students

  • Want to know how to become a badass student?

Start using Google Chrome browser. It's that simple

Chrome is my absolute best browser; I learn on it, I work on it. It's fast, clean and has a beautiful sleek design.

However, the best thing about it is that you can install apps and extensions that add lots of wonderful features to it, depending on what you do.

In today's post, I'm going to focus on extensions that are especially useful for students.

And I don't specifically mean those enrolled in some kind of school, but the lifelong learners too.

So, without further ado, let's dive right in.

    1. Google Dictionary

Ever found yourself reading a wordy article that makes you scratch your head over and over again? You have to continuously leave the page to search for the meaning of words in order to make sense of what you're reading.

With this extension made by Google, you don't have to do any of that. You can just highlight or double-click on the word and a popup will come up showing it's meaning.

It also saves the words or phrases you look up and let you download them as a CSV file.

    2. Memorise

We hate popups, we also hate interruptions, but not when they help us memorise stuff.

With memorise, you can save questions and their answers right within the extension. The questions pop up at a set interval and require you to answer them. It won't go away until you get the answers right or you chose to close it yourself.

Besides, Memorise interrupts you no matter what site you're on. Cool, isn't it?

    3. Facebook courage wolf

This extension doesn't block Facebook, nope. It puts a wolf in the background. So anytime you're on Facebook, the wolf is right there staring into your eyes and sending you a silent message.

The message depends on how badly you need to get off of Facebook. It could be as subtle as 'Hey why aren't you reading' to 'Get off Facebook right now or I eat your nose'. Of course, it's all in your head, but it works.

    4.Whoworks.At

There's no better time to start building a professional network than when you're a student.

For example, you're looking to find a job at a certain company when you graduate. With this extension, you can find people who work at the company by just being on their website, and then you can start building a relationship with them.

The extension leverages LinkedIn to find people in your network; 1st, 2nd and 3rd level connections.

All you need to do is to click on the extension toolbar and a dialogue will come up showing the people in your network who work there.

    5.StayFocused

This extension help to boosts your productivity by blocking distracting websites and limiting your use of them.

It works by allocating time limit that you can spend on each distracting site every day, so once you’ve used that time up, they’re blocked for the rest of the day.

This way, you won't be distracted when you're supposed to be reading, doing an assignment or researching for a paper.

    6. Announcify

This is a text to speech tool that reads out a web page for you without you having to select the text. That way, you can just relax and listen.

In case you also want to read along, It blurs the text not being read, so you don't get lost.

    7. Power thesaurus

This works exactly like the Google dictionary, but in this case, it grants the power of a thesaurus. You can have so many synonyms and antonyms of a word by just highlighting it.

    8. Grammarly

Grammarly helps to fix grammar-related errors in your writing.

When you install the extension, any writing you do within the browser will be monitored by it for errors and recommendations will be made on how to fix them. Grammarly also comes with a desktop application.

Imagine how this can help with your assignments and term papers.

    9. My Study Life

This extension help students to stay organised by scheduling their classes, assignments, tests or exams in one place. You'll also get notified of them when the time comes.

    10. Readability

This extension is super useful when you have to read stuff online. It works by cleaning the web pages of all unnecessary content like ads, widgets, recommendations e.t.c, allowing you to read without distractions.

    *****

This is by no means an exhaustive list. In fact, new extensions are added every day. So if you know any other one that needs to be in this post, don't hesitate to mention it in the comments section.

    Happy learning!
